## TL;DR

A child with infective endocarditis had their mitral valve repaired using a saphenous vein patch instead of a mechanical replacement.

## Contribution

The novel use of an autologous saphenous vein patch for mitral valve repair in a pediatric patient with infective endocarditis is described.

## Key findings

- A saphenous vein patch successfully repaired a large defect in the anterior mitral valve leaflet in a child.
- This approach avoided the need for a mechanical mitral valve replacement in a pediatric case of infective endocarditis.

## Abstract

Saphenous vein has been used successfully to repair the mitral valve in adults. We describe the use of a saphenous vein patch to repair a large defect in the anterior mitral valve leaflet in a child with infective endocarditis to avoid a mechanical mitral valve replacement.
