TL;DR
This review finds that most people, especially non-dental professionals, lack knowledge about how to properly handle a knocked-out tooth, highlighting the need for better education.
Contribution
The study systematically evaluates global awareness of tooth reimplantation across dental and non-dental populations, revealing significant knowledge gaps.
Findings
Only 2-37% of non-dental respondents were willing or able to attempt immediate tooth replantation.
Educational interventions significantly improved awareness and decision-making in tooth avulsion cases.
Dental professionals had higher awareness (over 80%) compared to parents (as low as 23%).
Abstract
Tooth avulsion is one of the most severe forms of traumatic dental injury, and its prognosis depends heavily on immediate and appropriate first-aid management, including prompt reimplantation or correct temporary storage of the avulsed tooth. A comprehensive search of PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar identified 8,133 records, of which 19 cross-sectional studies met the eligibility criteria, representing 5,752 participants from 10 countries. Most studies demonstrated moderate methodological quality. The findings reveal substantial deficiencies in knowledge, particularly among…
