TL;DR
A malnourished patient with psychiatric disease developed severe lung abscesses and sepsis caused by a rare Klebsiella ozaenae infection, requiring three months of treatment.
Contribution
This case report highlights the rare clinical presentation of Klebsiella ozaenae infection in a vulnerable patient population.
Findings
Klebsiella ozaenae caused severe lung abscesses and sepsis in a malnourished patient.
The infection required three months of antimicrobial therapy for complete resolution.
Abstract
Severe infections caused by Klebsiella ozaenae are extremely rare, and their clinical characteristics remain poorly defined. We report a case of Klebsiella ozaenae sepsis with severe lung abscesses in a malnourished patient with psychiatric disease, requiring 3 months of antimicrobial therapy for complete resolution. Severe Klebsiella ozaenae infections are extremely rare. We report a malnourished patient with psychiatric disease who developed sepsis and lung abscesses requiring 3 months of antimicrobial therapy.
