TL;DR
This study explores what helps or hinders using the Friendship Bench to treat depression in Malawi's non-communicable disease patients.
Contribution
Identifies specific barriers and facilitators to integrating a mental health intervention into NCD care in a low-resource setting.
Findings
Positive factors include understanding emotional distress and good patient-provider relationships.
Barriers include low mental health literacy and limited institutional support.
The Friendship Bench shows promise but needs adaptation for better implementation.
