Abstract
The clinical feasibility and efficacy of hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase (HIF-PH) inhibitors in patients with anemia in chronic kidney disease (CKD) remain uncertain. Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) may serve as a potential predictor for responsiveness to HIF-PH inhibitor therapy. Consecutive patients receiving HIF-PH inhibitors for anemia in CKD over three months were included. The predictive value of baseline RDW for the improvement in anemia in CKD, defined by the increase in hemoglobin levels to 10.0 g/dL or higher at within the first three months after initiation of therapy and the maintenance of that level thereafter, was assessed.
