TL;DR
This study identifies risk factors for hospitalization among elderly COVID-19 patients in Thailand, emphasizing comorbidities and vaccination effects.
Contribution
The study develops a clinical prediction model for hospitalization risk in elderly patients based on comorbidities, symptoms, and vaccination status.
Findings
Chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease were strongest predictors of hospitalization.
Vaccination reduced hospitalization and mortality risks significantly.
A predictive model with AUC 0.83 was developed for hospitalization risk stratification.
Abstract
COVID-19 has caused substantial morbidity and mortality worldwide, with elderly individuals disproportionately affected. However, data on hospitalization risk factors among older adults in Thailand are limited. This study aimed to characterize clinical features and identify predictors of hospitalization among elderly COVID-19 patients at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital.Study Flow Diagram and Distribution of Hospitalized and Non-Hospitalized Elderly PatientsWe included 1,262 elderly patients in the study. A total of 299 (23.7%) patients were hospitalized, including 260 (20.6%) who were primarily hospitalized at presentation, while 39 out of 1,002 patients were subsequently hospitalized after failed out-patient care. Only 47 (3.7%) died in our cohort.Forest Plot of Multivariate Logistic Regression: Comorbidities Associated with HospitalizationChronic kidney disease (CKD) and…
