Isa Faghihi, Helen L King, Yoomi Kwon

TL;DR
A shortage of benzathine penicillin G led to using doxycycline for syphilis treatment, but only 73% of patients received it, highlighting the need for better alternatives.
Contribution
Examines the impact of a benzathine penicillin G shortage on syphilis treatment and patient outcomes using doxycycline.
Findings
Only 73% of syphilis patients prescribed doxycycline had their medication dispensed.
Sexual health outreach improved treatment completion for some patients.
The shortage's effect on syphilis transmission rates remains unclear.
