P-1595. Perceived Individual Risk of COVID-19 Mirrors Community Risk: Analysis of Testing Sites in West Virginia
Brad Price, Timothy Dotson, Gordon S Smith, Sherri Davis, Sally L Hodder

TL;DR
This study found that people's perception of their personal risk of getting sick from COVID-19 generally aligns with the actual risk in their community, but rural residents and older adults tend to underestimate it.
Contribution
The study reveals that perceived individual risk of COVID-19 correlates with community-level risk, with notable exceptions in rural and older populations.
Findings
Perceived risk increases as community-level reproduction number (Rt) increases.
Rural residents and those over 60 years old significantly underestimate their risk.
Healthcare workers and immunocompromised individuals have higher perceived risk.
Abstract
There are often large variations in individuals’ perceived vs. actual community risk of contracting infectious diseases. As part of a study to better understand attitudes and behaviors regarding testing and vaccination for COVID-19, we sought to examine factors related to differences between a person’s perceived risk vs. actual community risk and association of a positive SARS-CoV-2 test result.Table 1:Demographics and Clinical CharacteristicsA breakdown of our study section by outcome response type arcross covariates.Table 2:Modeling Results Across Groups Demographics and Clinical Characteristics A breakdown of our study section by outcome response type arcross covariates. Modeling Results Across Groups Results of our logistic regression model where perceived risk (Low=0, Med/High=1). Gray rows indicate statistically significant covariates at the p<0.05 level.
