P-496. Adolescent Provider Perspectives on Sexual Health Screening and Preventive Care
Nicholas Venturelli, Douglas Krakower, Carly Guss

TL;DR
This study explores how U.S. primary care providers approach sexual health screening and HIV prevention for adolescents, revealing gaps in practice despite strong support.
Contribution
The study identifies specific gaps in STI and PrEP implementation among adolescent providers, particularly pediatricians.
Findings
Only 73% of providers recommended PrEP counseling in a clinical scenario, despite 88% stating they would likely counsel on PrEP.
Fewer than half of providers sent pharyngeal/anal swabs for chlamydia or gonorrhea.
42% of pediatricians had never initiated a PrEP conversation, compared to 16% of family medicine providers.

Eligible participants included physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants from a range of specialties. The survey captured provider demographics and measured four domains: (1) knowledge of PrEP and STI screening guidelines, (2) attitudes and perceived barriers to STI prevention, (3) current practices, and (4) interest in…
