Alana Pinheiro Alves, Denise Araujo, George J Alangaden, Eloy E Ordaya

TL;DR
This study examines the clinical characteristics and outcomes of pregnant individuals with latent tuberculosis infection, highlighting missed opportunities in their care and treatment.
Contribution
The study provides U.S.-based data on the management of latent tuberculosis in pregnant individuals, identifying gaps in care and treatment initiation.
Findings
Most pregnant individuals with latent TB were immigrants from high TB-endemic countries.
Only 4.8% of pregnant individuals with latent TB received treatment, and many were lost to follow-up.
No significant adverse maternal or fetal outcomes were observed among treated patients.
Abstract
Screening and managing pregnant individuals (PI) with latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is essential to prevent active tuberculosis (TB) and is CDC-recommended for those at risk. However, U.S. data on LTBI management for PI are limited. This report outlines the characteristics, management and outcomes of PI screened and diagnosed with LTBI.Figure 1.IGRA (Interferon-Gamma Release Assay) test results of pregnant individuals at our center with QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QTF-Plus) or QuantiFERON-TB GoldTable 1.Demographic characteristics and LTBI risk factors of pregnant individuals tested with IGRA at our center IGRA (Interferon-Gamma Release Assay) test results of pregnant individuals at our center with QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QTF-Plus) or QuantiFERON-TB Gold Demographic characteristics and LTBI risk factors of pregnant individuals tested with IGRA at our center This retrospective…
