Christina B Felsen, Erin Licherdell, Maria Gaitan, Ghinwa Dumyati, Brenda L Tesini

TL;DR
This study explores why many hospitalized children with influenza in Western NY did not receive antiviral treatment, despite recommendations.
Contribution
The study identifies specific themes and factors influencing antiviral non-prescription in hospitalized children with influenza.
Findings
Over half of hospitalized children with influenza did not receive antiviral treatment.
Untreated children had shorter hospital stays and fewer severe complications.
Common reasons for non-prescription included family declination, misunderstanding guidelines, and provider risk emphasis.
