Lisa Martinsson, Margareta Brännström, Per Fransson, Sofia Andersson

TL;DR
This study explores how palliative care doctors use a simple pain scale with cancer patients and finds it's more complex than it seems.
Contribution
Highlights the challenges physicians face when using the Numeric Rating Scale for pain assessment in cognitively impaired cancer patients.
Findings
Physicians found interpreting NRS ratings challenging for the whole care team.
The study identified four key themes in using the NRS, including shared understanding and organizational structures.
Future research should focus on better pain assessment methods for cognitively impaired patients.
