Samantha L. Ky, Marie Nunez Duarte, Nicole Garcia, Alexandra T. Hughes-Wegner, Marwan S. Ghabril, Lauren D. Nephew

TL;DR
This study explores why some patients with severe liver disease aren't referred for life-saving transplants, focusing on challenges faced by patients and doctors.
Contribution
The study provides new insights into systemic, interpersonal, and informational barriers affecting liver transplant referrals, particularly in underserved communities.
Findings
Barriers include long travel distances, appointment wait times, and poor system communication.
Provider tools for referrals are limited, and patients lack necessary support resources.
Addressing these issues could improve transplant referrals for marginalized populations.
