TL;DR
This review explores app-based interventions to support family caregivers of older adults, highlighting their potential and current research gaps.
Contribution
The study provides a comprehensive overview of app-based interventions for caregivers, identifying design and research limitations.
Findings
Forty-four unique apps were identified, with a focus on caregiver well-being and mental health.
Most interventions were perceived as beneficial, but research design and evaluation had significant gaps.
Future studies should improve integration of self-care and use rigorous behavioral frameworks.
Abstract
As the global population ages, the increasing number of individuals with chronic conditions places a growing burden on family caregivers. Behavioral interventions delivered via app-based interventions, including apps on mobile phones, tablet, or web, have emerged as a powerful tool for enhancing caregiver support. The current study aims to identify and describe app-based interventions for family caregivers of older adults with chronic conditions, focusing on their designs, features, and impact on caregiver outcomes.
