TL;DR
This study identifies 14 unmet needs of dementia caregivers managing swallowing issues, highlighting the need for better support and resources.
Contribution
The study introduces a virtual contextual inquiry method to uncover specific unmet needs of dementia caregivers managing dysphagia.
Findings
14 categories of unmet needs were identified, including challenges with transitioning dysphagia stages and managing costs.
Caregivers lack confidence in handling negative outcomes and require trustworthy information and professional support.
The study emphasizes the need for targeted interventions to improve dysphagia management and reduce caregiver burden.

The estimated prevalence of dysphagia (swallowing dysfunction) is as high as 85.9% for the more than 6 million Americans living with dementia.
