Abstract
Silver pomfret (Pampus argenteus) is a valuable marine fish widely consumed in China because of its tender meat and high nutritional quality. In recent years, researchers have made great progress in artificial breeding and aquaculture techniques for this species. However, the overall scale of P. argenteus aquaculture is still small, and several technical and management challenges remain. This review introduces the main biological features of P. argenteus and summarizes the latest research progress in breeding, nutrition, disease control, and aquaculture systems. It also identifies the key problems that limit industry expansion and proposes five major strategies to promote sustainable growth, including improving germplasm resources, developing new varieties, optimizing feeds, strengthening disease prevention, and standardizing operational protocols.
