TL;DR
This study finds that quality of life and social support are strong predictors of anxiety and depression in Myasthenia Gravis patients.
Contribution
The study identifies quality of life and social support as key factors for psychological distress in MG, beyond disease severity.
Findings
30.1% of MG patients had anxiety and 35.5% had depression.
Lower quality of life and insufficient social support independently predicted psychological distress.
MG-QOL-15 was most effective in detecting anxiety and depression.
Abstract
Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is a chronic autoimmune disorder frequently accompanied by anxiety and depression, which aggravate disease burden. Evidence on the relationship between clinical characteristics and psychological symptoms in MG remains inconsistent. We conducted a cross-sectional study of 93 Chinese MG patients. Clinical and demographic data were collected, and anxiety and depression were assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Associations were examined by correlation, chi-square tests, and logistic regression with false discovery rate (FDR) correction. Multivariable models adjusted for age and sex. ROC curve analyses evaluated the predictive performance of (MG Activities of Daily Living) MG-ADL, (15-item Myasthenia Gravis Quality of Life scale) MG-QOL-15, and (Social Support Rating Scale) SSRS. Anxiety and depression were present in 30.1 and 35.5% of…
