Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated obesity and mental health problems, particularly anxiety and depression. Both conditions share common risk factors, suggesting a possible bidirectional relationship. This study analyses the association between obesity and psychological distress in the Chilean population during the pandemic. A secondary analysis of data from the 2021 Social Wellbeing Survey (n = 10395) was conducted using logistic regression models to examine the relationship between obesity and the presence of severe psychological distress. The prevalence of obesity and severe psychological distress was higher in women (31.85% and 7.66%) than in men (25.1% and 3.6%).
