## TL;DR

This study found that Rational Emotive Therapy significantly reduced anxiety and related physical symptoms in older adults living in care homes.

## Contribution

The study demonstrates the effectiveness of Rational Emotive Therapy in reducing anxiety and physical symptoms in elderly populations.

## Key findings

- RET significantly reduced anxiety scores in the experimental group (p = 0.001).
- Physical symptoms associated with anxiety also decreased following RET sessions.

## Abstract

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health issues among the older adults. This pilot study assessed the effectiveness of
Rational Emotive Therapy (RET) in reducing anxiety and related physical symptoms among elderly residents of selected old age homes in
Coimbatore. A quasi-experimental design was adopted with 20 participants, divided equally into experimental and control groups. The
experimental group received 10 weekly RET sessions, while the control group received routine care. Anxiety levels were measured using
the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale and physical symptoms were assessed through a checklist. Pre- and post-intervention data showed a
significant reduction in anxiety scores in the experimental group (p = 0.001).
