Abstract
Using examples from their own doctoral research, the workshop leaders will walk participants through the basics of qualitative research methods. This introductory session will help participants get comfortable with the key parts of qualitative research design, such as aligning the purpose, philosophy of science, research questions, methodology, and the methods for collecting and analyzing data. With hands-on activities in small and large groups, participants will explore how to rigorously design and report qualitative research. For librarians and health sciences educators more familiar with the methods commonly used in knowledge synthesis and quantitative research, the purpose and assumptions of qualitative research in health and social settings might feel a bit unfamiliar.
