Mirjam Alvstrand, Maria Lönn, Petra Svedberg, Nygren, Ingrid Larsson

TL;DR
This study explores how children with ADHD and sleep problems experience factors that help them fall asleep, focusing on behavioral and environmental strategies.
Contribution
The study introduces children's own perspectives on behavioral and environmental facilitators for sleep initiation in ADHD.
Findings
Children identified behavioral factors like physical exercise and digital device regulation as helpful for sleep initiation.
Environmental factors such as a calming sleeping environment and consistent evening routines were also found to be important.
The study emphasizes the need for individualized approaches to support sleep initiation in children with ADHD.
Abstract
Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) often experience significant sleep difficulties, which can impair daily functioning and exacerbate ADHD symptoms. This study aimed to explore the experiences of facilitators supporting sleep initiation among children with ADHD and sleep problems. An exploratory, inductive qualitative design was used. Individual interviews were conducted with 21 children (11 boys and 10 girls) aged 6–12, diagnosed with ADHD and sleep problems. Data were analyzed…
