Lost in a Thyroid Storm – Psychosis as a First Presentation of Grave’s Disease
Eneida Karriqi, Emma Padfield

TL;DR
A young woman with undiagnosed Grave’s disease first showed psychotic symptoms, highlighting the need to consider thyroid issues in psychiatric evaluations.
Contribution
This case report emphasizes the rare but critical presentation of Grave’s disease as initial psychosis.
Findings
Hyperthyroidism can mimic primary psychiatric disorders with acute disorientation and psychotic symptoms.
Treating hyperthyroidism with antithyroid drugs can reduce psychiatric symptoms, though recovery may take weeks to months.
Collaboration between psychiatrists and endocrinologists is essential for managing such cases effectively.
