Profound Grief and Pulmonary Fibrosis – A Case Report
Joyce Leong, Lay Ling Tan, Chiang Choo Goh

TL;DR
This case study explores the potential link between unresolved grief and lung disease, combining insights from Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medical literature.
Contribution
It introduces a novel perspective on how psychological factors like grief may influence the development of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Findings
The patient attributes her father's lung fibrosis to unresolved grief, aligning with TCM principles.
Western studies suggest a link between grief and increased vulnerability to physical illness, particularly in the cardiovascular system.
Psychological factors as a risk for IPF have not been previously studied in depth.
Abstract
Aims: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) describes correlations between mental disorders, symptoms and physical organs, specifically identifying dominant emotions associated with specific organs.
