TL;DR
This study evaluated the effectiveness of using video calls to triage new patients in a perinatal mental health service, finding that most patients found the process useful despite some logistical challenges.
Contribution
The study introduces and evaluates a novel video triage system in perinatal mental health services to standardize triage and improve patient experience.
Findings
Most patients preferred video triage over telephone and felt the process clarified next steps in their care.
Staff reported improved patient experience and increased access numbers, but noted workload pressures and logistical issues.
Admin staff observed a friendly patient approach and increased access, but also reported workload challenges.
