Rebecca Hutchinson

TL;DR
This paper examines the potential risks of using flumazenil to reverse benzodiazepine overdose in mental health settings, highlighting discrepancies in guidelines and the need for caution.
Contribution
The paper identifies inconsistencies in flumazenil use guidelines and raises concerns about its administration in mental health units due to limited expertise.
Findings
Flumazenil use is rare in Northern Trust mental health services, with no recent documented cases.
Guidelines show conflicting advice on when flumazenil is safe to use, emphasizing the need for experienced administration.
Serious adverse effects like convulsions and cardiac arrhythmias are associated with flumazenil use.
