Behçet’s Disease as a Cause of Recurrent Deep Vein Thrombosis
Aazaz Rehman, William Monks, Rawya Ahmed, Nigel Marchbank

TL;DR
This case report shows how Behçet’s disease can cause recurring blood clots and highlights the need for careful diagnosis and early treatment.
Contribution
The paper emphasizes the importance of considering Behçet’s disease in patients with unexplained recurrent deep vein thrombosis.
Findings
Behçet’s disease can mimic other conditions and lead to multiple thrombotic events despite anticoagulation.
Delayed diagnosis of BD can result in severe complications like pulmonary artery aneurysms.
A multidisciplinary approach is essential for managing patients with suspected BD-related thrombosis.
Abstract
Behçet’s disease (BD) is a rare multisystem vasculitis that can present with various clinical manifestations, including recurrent venous thromboembolism. This case report details the diagnostic journey of a man in his early 40s who initially presented with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) but subsequently developed multiple thrombotic events despite appropriate anticoagulation therapy. His illness trajectory highlights the importance of a detailed clinical history and a comprehensive diagnostic approach, particularly when symptoms evolve over time and involve multiple organ systems. DVT is a common condition that can arise due to immobility, malignancy, or thrombophilias. However, in patients with recurrent DVTs or unexplained progression despite treatment, clinicians must consider alternative systemic causes such as autoimmune disorders. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges…
