Shamail A Syed, Fatima Latif, Amna Rafique, Asila Anwar

TL;DR
This paper presents a case of intestinal obstruction during late pregnancy and highlights the importance of timely diagnosis and safe imaging techniques like MRI to avoid harm to the mother and fetus.
Contribution
The paper emphasizes the use of MRI as a safe diagnostic tool for intestinal obstruction in pregnancy, avoiding the risks of ionizing radiation.
Findings
MRI can safely diagnose intestinal obstruction in pregnant patients without exposing the fetus to ionizing radiation.
Prompt diagnosis and surgical intervention can lead to favorable maternal and fetal outcomes.
Adhesions from previous surgeries are a common cause of intestinal obstruction in pregnancy.
Abstract
Small bowel obstruction (SBO) is a rare yet life-threatening event in pregnancy. If not diagnosed and treated promptly, it can lead to an increase in maternal as well as foetal morbidity and mortality. In the majority of cases, small bowel obstruction is caused by adhesions from previous pelvic surgeries.
