Stigmatisation of survivors of political persecution in the GDR: attitudes of healthcare professionals
Tobias Schott, Marie Blume, Anne Weiß, Christian Sander, Georg Schomerus

TL;DR
This study explores whether healthcare professionals in Germany still stigmatize people who suffered under the GDR regime, affecting their mental health treatment.
Contribution
The paper is the first to investigate stigmatizing attitudes of healthcare professionals toward GDR injustice survivors with mental health issues.
Findings
Stigmatizing attitudes were found to be influenced by age, sex, knowledge of the GDR, and professional background.
Vignettes describing SED injustice led to more negative stereotypes and greater social distance from the patient.
Regression models showed moderate explanatory power for the observed attitudes.
