# Statement on the maximum residue level for propamocarb in lettuces

PMC · DOI: 10.2903/j.efsa.2025.9455 · 2025-05-26

## TL;DR

The paper sets a safe maximum residue level for propamocarb in lettuces to protect consumer health.

## Contribution

It identifies a new fall-back MRL of 30 mg/kg for propamocarb in lettuces.

## Key findings

- An MRL of 30 mg/kg is safe for propamocarb in lettuces.
- Short-term and long-term intake from this MRL is unlikely to harm consumers.
- Residue data from several Member States supported the new MRL.

## Abstract

In accordance with Article 43 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, EFSA received a mandate from the European Commission to provide a statement on the maximum residue level (MRL) of propamocarb in lettuces. EFSA was mandated to identify a safe fall‐back MRL in lettuces since, for the current MRL of 40 mg/kg, acute consumer intake concerns could not be excluded. After an ad hoc data call, some Member States reported several potential fall‐back good agricultural practices (GAPs) and submitted residue trial data to support the fall‐back MRL options. An appropriate fall‐back MRL value of 30 mg/kg was identified by EFSA. EFSA concluded that the short‐term and long‐term intake of residues of propamocarb in lettuces (resulting from the fall‐back GAPs considered in the present statement) and of residues in other commodities of food and animal origin is unlikely to present a risk to consumer health.
