TL;DR
A rare case of pericostal tuberculosis was discovered incidentally during an abdominal MRI and confirmed through thoracoscopic resection.
Contribution
Highlights pericostal tuberculosis as a rare differential diagnosis for pleural tumors based on MRI features.
Findings
A mobile pleural mass was detected incidentally on an abdominal MRI.
Thoracoscopic resection confirmed pericostal tuberculosis with PCR-positive Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Abstract
A mobile pleural mass on an MRI was incidentally detected in a 45‐year‐old woman. Thoracoscopic resection revealed caseous necrosis and PCR‐confirmed Mycobacterium tuberculosis , leading to a diagnosis of pericostal tuberculosis. This rare case emphasises considering pericostal tuberculosis in the differential diagnosis of pleural tumours if there are suspicious MRI features.
