TL;DR
This study identifies barriers to maternal health service use in rural Tanzania, showing that high awareness does not always lead to service use due to poor service quality and other factors.
Contribution
The study uses a convergent mixed-method approach to analyze bottlenecks in maternal health service utilization in rural Tanzania.
Findings
High community awareness does not translate to high maternal health service utilization.
Antenatal and postnatal care utilization rates were 17.4% and 22.0%, respectively.
Service quality and stakeholder perceptions are critical barriers to effective maternal health coverage.
