TL;DR
A new screening tool for acute stress disorder in burn patients was developed and tested, showing that early identification can help prevent long-term psychological effects.
Contribution
An original patient-led questionnaire for acute stress disorder screening in burn patients was created and validated.
Findings
15% of burn patients screened positive for acute stress disorder using the new tool.
Screening at two weeks post-injury was sufficient, eliminating the need for later screenings.
Scald injuries were the most common cause among patients with acute stress disorder.
