TL;DR
Higher education does not equally reduce reliance on Social Security disability benefits for Black and White Americans, highlighting racial disparities in economic returns.
Contribution
This study provides empirical evidence supporting the Minorities' Diminished Returns theory in the context of educational attainment and disability income reliance.
Findings
Educational attainment is associated with lower odds of relying on disability income sources for both Black and White adults.
The protective effects of education are significantly weaker for Black adults compared to White adults.
Structural factors may limit the economic benefits of education for Black Americans despite higher educational achievement.
