TL;DR
This study examines how Spanish psychiatry residents' work hours and rest times compare to European regulations, finding significant non-compliance that could affect their well-being and patient care.
Contribution
The study provides the first data on duty hours and rest compliance among Spanish psychiatry residents, highlighting gender and residency year differences.
Findings
66.07% of psychiatry residents exceeded the 48-hour weekly work limit set by the EWTD.
7% of residents did not rest after a 24-hour on-call shift, and 22% lacked a day-off after a Saturday on-call shift.
Female residents and those in the 2020 cohort had higher on-call shift frequencies.
