TL;DR
This study explores factors influencing delays in seeking mental health treatment among patients with depression and suicidal thoughts, finding that a combination of age, gender, and emotional confusion may explain these delays.
Contribution
The study identifies the interaction between clinical and neuropsychological factors in treatment delays for depression and suicidal ideation.
Findings
Younger patients and those with severe depression symptoms are more likely to have suicidal ideation.
Emotional confusion (alexithymia) and gender are associated with untreated symptom duration.
Symptom severity does not directly correlate with treatment-seeking delays.
