F. Marcolini, D. De Ronchi, A. R. Atti

TL;DR
This study finds that over 50% of Italians, especially university students, engage in binge drinking, which is linked to various negative outcomes like poor school performance and risky behavior.
Contribution
The study is the first in Italy to use validated questions to assess binge drinking and its psychopathological correlations.
Findings
Binge drinking prevalence is 56% in the general population and over 70% among university students.
Binge drinking is associated with reduced school performance, risky sexual behavior, and drunk driving.
Chronic alcohol consumption is reported in 11.7% of the sample and correlates with impulsivity.
