TL;DR
A 52-year-old woman with manic symptoms was found to have Cushing’s disease, highlighting the importance of diagnosing endocrine disorders that mimic psychiatric conditions.
Contribution
This case emphasizes the need to consider endocrine causes when evaluating psychiatric symptoms to avoid misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment.
Findings
The patient's manic episode was linked to Cushing’s disease caused by a pituitary microadenoma.
Despite surgical intervention, cortisol levels remained high, leading to a recurrence of manic symptoms.
Accurate diagnosis of endocrine disorders can prevent unnecessary psychiatric treatment.
