Yash Desai, Prutha Patel, McKenzie Lydon, Michael Breiner

TL;DR
This case report describes a rare occurrence of two hernias in an elderly woman, offering insights into their possible causes and contributing factors.
Contribution
The paper presents a rare case of co-occurring indirect inguinal and hiatal hernias in a female cadaver.
Findings
An indirect inguinal hernia and a hiatal hernia were found in a 92-year-old female cadaver.
The donor's age and chronic respiratory disease may have contributed to hernia formation.
The case highlights sex-related disparities and anatomical factors in hernia occurrence.
Abstract
This case report highlights the rare co-occurrence of an indirect inguinal hernia and a hiatal hernia identified in a 92-year-old female formalin-fixed whole-body donor. While indirect inguinal hernias are relatively uncommon in women, the simultaneous presence of a hiatal hernia adds to the uniqueness of this case. This discovery offers an opportunity to explore the anatomical, clinical, and embryological factors contributing to hernia formation, as well as the incidence rates and sex-related disparities in their occurrence. The findings are contextualized within the donor's advanced age and suspected chronic respiratory disease, which likely contributed to increased intra-abdominal pressure and weakened connective tissue integrity. The authors obtained appropriate permissions and approvals for the use of data and images, adhering to institutional ethical guidelines and ensuring…
