142 Mountaineering – an opportunity for inclusion

Contribution
The project introduces scalable methods for inclusive mountaineering and demonstrates successful implementation through training and organized activities.
Findings
39 events with 2632 participants and 4 training program repetitions with 78 participants were organized in 2023.
The project positively impacts biological, sociological, and psychological health aspects of participants.
Collaboration with multiple disability organizations and stakeholders supports broader inclusion and accessibility.
Abstract
Mountaineering play an important role in Slovenian society. In recent years, we have seen an attempt to include people with disabilities into Mountaineering. They have fewer opportunities to participate in recreational activities in an accessible way. The aim of the project is to increase the health-promoting physical activity of people with disabilities/special needs and to improve social integration through hiking. It also aims to improve inclusion by creating a supportive and safe environment for all participants. The project will develop and test methods for inclusion of different groups that can be implemented on a broad scale. Part of Alpine association of Slovenia is also a mountaineering committee for people with disabilities/special needs.
