## TL;DR

This study examines how iron overload before a stem cell transplant affects outcomes in children with severe aplastic anemia.

## Contribution

The study reveals that pretransplant iron overload delays immune cell recovery and increases transplant complications in pediatric patients.

## Key findings

- Iron overload before transplantation is linked to longer disease duration and higher red blood cell transfusion needs.
- Iron overload delays the recovery of regulatory T cells after transplantation.
- It increases the risk of complications like hemorrhagic cystitis and severe graft-versus-host disease.
