Duyen Thuy Nguyen, Michael Donnelly, Minh Van Hoang, Ciaran O’Neill

TL;DR
This study examines how alcohol consumption in Scotland changed after introducing a minimum unit price for alcohol, showing a decline in drinking.
Contribution
The study provides empirical evidence on the impact of minimum unit pricing on alcohol consumption patterns in Scotland.
Findings
Alcohol consumption in Scotland declined by about 8% after 2012 and 12% after 2018 compared to earlier levels.
The likelihood of abstention increased, and heavy drinking prevalence slightly decreased after the policy implementation.
Moderate drinkers showed significant declines in alcohol consumption, while hazardous or harmful drinkers did not.
