TL;DR
This study shows that combining protein A immunoadsorption with rituximab safely reduces harmful antibodies in highly sensitized patients before a stem cell transplant.
Contribution
The study introduces a safe and effective desensitization protocol for highly sensitized patients undergoing haplo-HSCT.
Findings
Protein A immunoadsorption significantly reduced HLA antibody levels in patients with HLA I and II class antibodies.
The treatment led to a notable decrease in IgG and complement C3 levels, indicating reduced immune activity.
Post-transplant survival rates were high, with 83.8% overall survival and 80.2% disease-free survival within 100 days.
