Neel M. Butala, Kuldeep Jiwani, Emily M. Bucholz

TL;DR
This study examines how consistent physician directory data is across U.S. insurers, finding significant variation by specialty and state.
Contribution
The study identifies systemic data quality issues in provider directories and suggests policy solutions to improve consistency.
Findings
Provider directory consistency varies significantly by physician specialty, with patient-facing specialties showing higher data quality.
Address and phone number consistency ranges from 11-43% across specialties and insurers.
Data quality issues are systemic and not specific to individual insurers.
