Samantha Steeman, Devi Lakhlani, Eloise Stanton, Clifford C Sheckter

TL;DR
This study finds that for-profit burn centers treat fewer minority and uninsured patients compared to trauma-designated or non-profit centers, highlighting disparities in healthcare equity.
Contribution
The study reveals how profit status and trauma designation in burn centers correlate with racial/ethnic diversity and patient transfer patterns.
Findings
For-profit burn centers treat fewer Black and Hispanic patients compared to trauma-designated centers.
For-profit centers receive almost no transfers for uninsured or Medi-Cal patients, unlike non-profit centers.
Trauma-designated burn centers are associated with higher proportions of minority patients.
