Eloise Stanton, Akshay Swaminathan, Nada Rizk, Rachel Pedreira, Clifford C Sheckter

TL;DR
This study examines how negotiated burn care rates vary across hospitals and finds that market competition and verification status influence reimbursement amounts.
Contribution
The study provides the first national analysis of burn care commercial rate variation and links verification status to higher reimbursement.
Findings
Burn care commercial rates vary by a factor of 3 within and between hospitals.
ABA verification status is independently associated with higher reimbursement rates for most DRGs.
Market competition, measured by HHI, is the strongest predictor of burn care payments.
