TL;DR
Long-term burn survivors face significant unmet mental health needs, especially as time passes since their injury, with a particular gap in support for Spanish-speaking individuals.
Contribution
This study identifies mental health support as a critical unmet need for long-term burn survivors, particularly those more than ten years post-injury.
Findings
Survivors over ten years post-burn injury were at least five times more likely to report lack of mental health support as an unmet need.
Spanish-speaking survivors reported a higher proportion of unmet needs related to support groups compared to English speakers.
Burn injury is shown to have chronic, multifaceted impacts requiring ongoing mental health resources.
