TL;DR
This study identifies three risk groups among older adult care workers in long-term care facilities and suggests targeted interventions to reduce neglect.
Contribution
The study introduces a novel use of latent profile analysis to classify care workers based on neglect risk and identify associated demographic factors.
Findings
Three neglect profiles were identified: low-risk, medium-risk, and high-risk groups.
High-risk group members were more likely to be male, lack certification, and avoid regular training.
Low-risk group members typically had higher income and cared for fewer residents at once.
Abstract
Neglect is a common form of abuse, and long-term care facilities record higher incidences of this abuse. Given that older adult care workers are the main workforce in these facilities, their neglectful behavior requires public health attention. In this cross-sectional study, a convenience sample of older adult care workers from 15 long-term care facilities in Shandong Province (N = 421) completed a questionnaire on the characteristics associated with neglect. Latent profile analysis was used to identify distinct neglect profiles and promote the understanding of individual characteristics…
