TL;DR
A survey of Canadians with celiac disease shows changes in symptoms and healthcare professional consultations over the past 25 years, indicating improved detection but ongoing diagnostic delays.
Contribution
The study provides updated insights into the evolving diagnostic journey of celiac disease in Canada over the past 25 years.
Findings
Individuals diagnosed over 25 years ago reported more diarrhea and less brain fog compared to recent diagnoses.
Fewer recent patients consulted gastroenterologists before diagnosis compared to those diagnosed more than 25 years ago.
Diagnostic delays have decreased over time, though they remain a concern.
