TL;DR
This study investigates the hexagonal disordered Ce2PdGe3, revealing its cluster glass magnetic behavior and notable magnetocaloric effects near 7-9 K, distinct from its tetragonal form.
Contribution
First detailed analysis of the hexagonal polymorph of Ce2PdGe3 showing cluster glass behavior and magnetocaloric properties.
Findings
Cluster glass behavior with T_f = 3.44 K identified.
Magnetocaloric effect peaks near 7-9 K with ΔS_m = 2.6 J/kg·K.
Localized Ce 4f states confirmed by XPS.
Abstract
In this work, we study the hexagonal variant of the system that crystallizes in the -type structure (space group , ) and exhibits cluster spin glass type behavior. The physical properties were studied by magnetization, heat capacity and electric resistivity, which showed that -type () can be classified as a cluster glass material with the freezing temperature in contrast to the behavior of the previously described tetragonal variant, which shows a double antiferromagnetic transition at and . The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements reveal that the states are well localized. In addition, we examine the magnetocaloric effect in this compound. The maximum values of…
