Near-threshold photon-proton production of $J/\psi$ and $\Upsilon$
Chentao Tan, Zhun Lu

TL;DR
This paper models near-threshold heavy vector meson photoproduction off protons using GPDs, fitting model parameters to PDFs, and compares results with experimental data, providing predictions for future collider tests.
Contribution
It introduces a spectator model for gluon GPDs fitted to PDFs and applies it to describe near-threshold $J/\psi$ and $\Upsilon$ production, aligning well with experimental data.
Findings
Good agreement with $J/\psi$ production data from GlueX and JLab-007.
Provides predictions for $\Upsilon$ photoproduction at future colliders.
Model successfully describes differential and total cross sections.
Abstract
We study the near-threshold exclusive photoproduction of heavy vector mesons (quarkonia and ) off the proton within the framework of generalized parton distribution (GPD) factorization. The gluon GPDs are computed using a spectator model in which the proton emits a gluon and the remaining constituents are treated as a single spectator particle. Model parameters are determined by fitting the gluon unpolarized and helicity collinear parton distribution functions (PDFs) from global analyses. We compare our results with the latest near-threshold production data from the GlueX and -007 experiments at Jefferson Laboratory, finding good agreement for both differential and total cross sections. Predictions are also provided for photoproduction, which can be tested at future Electron-Ion Colliders.
